Survey Extended and MOU Signed

City Council unanimously agreed to have the Mayor of Everett sign our Memo of Understanding (MOU) for the Pesticide Free Park! This is an understanding for a one year term between Everett and Lowell Civic Association. Although the city did not spray any pesticides this past year, we are now officially an official pesticide free park! Click here for council agenda and a link to a copy of the MOU. The council meeting was November 25th, they haven't posted the minutes yet but should soon.

Also, I've expended the survey deadline to December 30th. You will not be eligible for the awesome incentive prizes, but we value your input, so if you haven't filled out the quick 10 question survey, click on the right side bar and fill it out!

Lowell park has been amazing this fall, completely ablaze with color! They are falling fast so enjoy them while you can!

This year, we have maintained Lowell park without the use of pesticides! The increased manual labor was offset by hardworking volunteers. The City has asked that we survey the neighborhood and find out what you think about the appearance and usability of Lowell Neighborhood Park!

Lowell's Community Garden Grew

In addition to our pesticide free park, Lowell neighborhood also has a pesticide free community garden!

Sept. 11th Clean Up and Weeding

Remember Sept. 11th by giving back to your community. Volunteer at Lowell Park in Everett, WA for litter clean up and light weeding.

Lowell Park from 11-12 weeding and clean up. Stay and play, bring a picnic for after. Very family friendly!

New Billboard

I added informational sign's to the billboard along the bathroom building at Lowell Neighborhood Park. One sign is specific to Lowell and explains our program, the others include reasons why a park should be pesticide free. These are from a handout found on the Northwest Coalition on Alternatives for Pesticide (NCAP) website: http://www.pesticide.org/.

The billboard explains why the chemicals in pesticides used to kill weeds are dangerous to growing children, pets, the pesticide appliers, and our environment, especially rivers and streams.

Everett Gospel Mission Work Party

Each month, a different 'steward' is responsible for park maintenance. The Everett Gospel Mission volunteered to take care of August and they did it in style. They had a group grill out, but you had to pull some weeds and lend a hand first!

We had over 20 volunteers and we put a small dent in the 10 acres of dandelions that seem to prefer our grassy area to anywhere else!

Thanks to all these amazing women for helping maintain Lowell Park pesticide free! Also, thanks to Jackie Minchew, Lowell Civic Association President, for coming out to help and for representing the men!

Pesticide Free Everett

We are a committee of the Lowell Civic Association in Everett, WA. This is the story of our local park, Lowell Neighborhood park. The first and, for now, only pesticide free park in Everett.

Above photos are from our first clean up day in June of 2009. We had close to 20 volunteers from all parts of the neighborhood.
